What is a portfolio?
A portfolio is a collection of artwork that you have made that exemplifies your interests, commitment, and skills in art and design. Whether you paint, draw, sew, sculpt, animate, film, weave, print, or just plain make and create — it all belongs in your portfolio as a reflection of your artistic self. We want to get to know you through your skills and your artwork!

This February, NSCAD is hosting Portfolio Day, an open house designed to help you take the next step in your creative journey. Receive personalized feedback on your portfolio, explore our programs, and experience what campus life is like.

On Portfolio Day, you’ll have the opportunity to receive in-person helpful and encouraging feedback on your portfolio as you prepare to apply to study art and design. Whether you are applying for Fall 2027 and have a robust collection of artworks or are still a few years away and are just starting to build up a portfolio, our faculty can identify your creative strengths and point you in the right direction.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Explore our studios and creative spaces at Port and Fountain Campuses.
- Meet current students, faculty, and staff.
- Receive one-on-one feedback about your portfolio, and discuss your creative and academic plans.
- Learn valuable information to help strengthen your application.
- Find out more about NCSAD’s undergraduate programs, student resources, and campus life.
- Discover where creativity can take your career!

WHAT TO EXPECT
You will meet students, staff, and faculty.
We plan a series of activities that:
- Provide you with tips and feedback to strengthen your application.
- Introduce you to current students, faculty and staff.
- Familiarize you with our campuses and facilities.
- Provide more information about student life at NSCAD.

The morning block will consist of campus tours, showing off our amazing facilities, and a series of presentations from faculty and alumni to help you get to know NSCAD — as well as gain some tips and tricks for applying to art school and strengthening your portfolio.
After we offer a break for a light lunch, the afternoon block is dedicated to Portfolio Reviews. You’ll be assigned a reviewer and a time to meet them!

- Campus Tours: Experience the energy of NSCAD firsthand through a guided campus tour. Explore our facilities, learn about the student experience, and see where creativity comes to life.

- National Portfolio Days: Offers a unique opportunity to meet one-on-one with art and design schools from across North America. Get valuable portfolio feedback, learn about academic programs and connect with NSCAD representatives, at select in-person and virtual events.
- NSCAD Extended Studies: Offers a variety of camps, workshops and non-credit courses designed specifically for youth aged 13+ to develop their creative skills.
- Portfolio Prep Course: NSCAD’s Extended Studies offers a 4-week virtual (talk to Catherine about changing the name from Review to Prep) Review Course is designed to help you strengthen your portfolio in preparation for your Art and Design school application.
- Pre-University: Students entering their final year of high school are eligible to apply to take one Foundation-level summer course. Learn in a university studio environment and study alongside current NSCAD students.
- Virtual info session: Discuss whether we have the capacity to add sessions. Join an online information session to learn about NSCAD’s programs, admissions process, portfolio requirements, and student experience.
