Certificate programs

These graduate degree programs are ideal for individuals who have gained sufficient experience in their own area of interest to make concentrated post-graduate study a useful choice. In some cases, the graduate programs provide, through teaching assistantships, direct contact between graduate and undergraduate students.

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Design provides an introduction to interdisciplinary design. Comprised of 30 credits, the program is typically taken in the fall and winter semesters and includes a mix of studio credits, liberal arts and science courses. In keeping with the broad, interdisciplinary approach of NSCAD’s BDes and MDes programs, the certificate is intended as a generalist credential and is not specific to any one area of design.

NSCAD University’s Visual Arts Certificate for Teachers has been designed specifically for teachers interested in strengthening their knowledge of the history and theories of visual art and in honing their studio skills and knowledge of teaching methods. Approved by the Nova Scotia Department of Education, Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission and NSCAD University’s Academic Council, the Visual Arts Certificate for Teachers meets Nova Scotia’s provincial requirements for one level of Advanced Teacher Certification. The certificate is offered to both art specialist teachers and non-specialist teachers.

The Visual Arts Certificate in Studio program is perfect for those who have a visual arts degree (BFA, MFA or equivalent) in fine arts, media arts, craft or design, and want to continue cultivating their artistic practice, either by studying a new studio discipline or by expanding their knowledge of a practice they may have only briefly touched on in the past.
