  • Processing requests for research funds
  • Representing NSCAD in negotiations between research sponsors and faculty
  • Arranging acceptance of funds for sponsored research
  • Processing all research-related transactions (travel claims, reimbursements, equipment purchases, etc)
  • Assisting in the organization and presentation of collaborative research ventures
  • Acting as a liaison between researchers and NSCAD administrative departments
  • Assisting with ethical and environmental considerations for research projects
  • Assisting with the development of research policies and procedures
  • Preparing all financial and outcome reporting to research sponsors
  • Promoting research within and beyond the NSCAD community

RESEARCH GRANTS

The Research Grants Office at NSCAD supports faculty members to pursue funding opportunities that support their academic research.

The office provides support for applications to Research Nova Scotia and all TriAgency grants: SSHRC, NSERC, and CIHR, as well as for internal grants like Start-Up Research Grant (SURG) and the Research Development Fund Grant (RDFG). The Research Grants Office does not typically review Canada Council, Nova Scotia Arts Council, or other personal grant applications.

All research grant applications at NSCAD must be reviewed by the Research Grants Officer and approved by the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Research before they are submitted to the funder. Completed grants are due internally three weeks before the official grant deadline.

The Research Grants Office can provide support to the grant writing process:

  • Discussing your approach to research
  • Identifying appropriate grants for your project
  • Communicating with funding agencies
  • Outreach to academic and community partners
  • Support to develop project plans and grant outlines
  • Providing regular meetings and internal deadlines to aid with time management
  • Substantive and copy editing of draft grants
  • Support for project budget development
  • Liaising with the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Research
  • Communication with the Research Ethics Review officer*

The Grants office runs workshops and research events throughout the school year:

A September-December “Grant Writing Bootcamp” designed to prepare faculty for TriAgency applications.

Research talks that allow faculty to share their research with the NSCAD community.
