RESEARCH SUPPORT AND GRANTING COUNCILS

GRANTING COUNCILS

TRI-AGENCY COUNCILS

At the federal level the Tri-Agency and their provincial counterparts work to fund research that benefits all Canadians in creating and disseminating new knowledge. These tri-agency councils include the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the National Sciences and Engineering Research (NSERC) who oversee the Canada Research Chair (CRC) program.

NSCAD University is a signatory to the Tri-Agency Framework Responsible Conduct of Research. In accordance with the framework, faculty researchers are responsible for upholding the Tri-Agency Research Integrity Policy for managing agency grant and award funds in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Tri-Agency, and for expeditiously rectifying any breach of agency policy that is identified. NSCAD University undertakes to administer the grants and awards in accordance with the Tri-Agency policies, to promote responsible conduct of research, and to address allegations of policy breaches in a timely fashion.

The Canada Research Coordinating Committee designed the New Frontiers in Research Fund following a comprehensive national consultation, which involved Canadian researchers, research administrators, stakeholders and the public. NFRF is administered by the Tri-agency Institutional Programs Secretariat, which is housed within SSHRC, on behalf of the Tri-Agency Council.

The Office of Research Services provides administrative and support services for NSCAD students, faculty and institutional research endeavors by:

RESEARCH SUPPORT FUND

The Research Support Fund (RSF) assists Canadian post-secondary institutions with the costs associated with managing their research enterprise, helping them to maintain a world-class research environment. The Research Support Fund for universities is calculated based on a proportion of Tri-Council funded grants earned over a three-year period. The RSF can be used to:

– maintain modern labs and equipment
– provide access to up-to-date knowledge resources
– provide research management and administrative support
– meet regulatory and ethical standards
– transfer knowledge from academia to the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, helping to make Canada a world leader in research and development.

From 2016-2021, NSCAD used its RSF support to fund research talks, research office grant support to faculty and for the library’s purchase of online direct licences, cataloguing functions.

  • 2022 – 2023 ($133,846)
  • 2021 – 2022 ($107,000)
  • 2020 – 2021 ($91,215)

  • 2017 – 2018 ($84,362)
  • 2016 – 2017 ($107,755)

For 2021-2022, NSCAD plans to use the $107,007 allocation in RSF support to fund research talks, research office grant support to faculty and for the library’s purchase of online direct licences, cataloguing functions.

NSCAD commits to publicly and actively communicate how RSF funds are used at the institution to support research activities. This means that every OAAR organized research talk, whenever the research officer provides assistance to a faculty member on a grant application, when library consortia licenses are purchased the RSF will be acknowledged.
