Thank you for helping us navigate tight timelines and summer holidays! We’ve had some terrific public and stakeholder feedback during face-to-face engagement earlier this month. Now we seek additional comments from you by Aug 8th via these online surveys. Stay tuned for more ways to contribute if this proposal for a cultural hub on Halifax’ waterfront is approved.
Earlier this year, the Government of Nova Scotia announced it is exploring the development of a new cultural hub which would bring together the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (AGNS) and a new Nova Scotia College of Arts and Design University (NSCAD) campus in one location on the waterfront. The hub would also include public space to showcase and celebrate the province’s culture.
The proposed cultural hub will help position Nova Scotia as a world leader in the visual arts, educate the province’s future creative industries leaders and create new public space to celebrate, and showcase, our arts and culture.
The proposed waterfront cultural hub is intended to:
* provide much-needed new facilities for the AGNS and NSCAD – replacing the existing provincial art gallery buildings in downtown Halifax and the Fountain and Academy campuses of NSCAD with a dynamic new creative cluster
* create an inclusive and accessible new public gathering space
* provide a new venue to showcase and celebrate Nova Scotia’s culture
* include other public amenities to be identified through the community and stakeholder engagement processes
We’re now inviting Nova Scotians to help shape the vision for this proposed cultural hub and provide input which will be used to develop a facility plan. The vision and facility plan will be used to decide next steps. Nova Scotians can get updates on the project at http://www.novascotia.ca/cultural-hub
