NSCAD University’s 19th annual Wearable Art Show set for April 22
On Wednesday evening, April 22, the historic Granville Mall will be transformed into an outdoor runway and art gallery for the 19th annual NSCAD University Wearable Art Show. The award-winning fashion and art show, featuring the finest creative talents in Halifax, will raise money for both the AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia and the Wearable Art Scholarship for NSCAD students.
“Unlike other conventional fashion shows, the Wearable Art Show promotes one-of-a-kind clothing in a non-juried setting and encourages its participants to create work that knows no bounds,” explains Sarah Roy, one of the two organizers of this year’s event.
Brian MacQuarrie and Bill Wood of Halifax-base sketch comedy group, Picnicface, will host the 2009 fashion show. “Top-secret local celebrities will also be making appearances, so keep your eyes and ears peeled,” adds Roy.
“Wearable Art attracts hundreds of people to what’s become a must-attend cultural event in the art and fashion community,” says co-organizer, Bree Mackin “Last year’s event raised $7000.00, and we’re working hard to set a new record this year.”
“You’ll see the entire Granville Mall turned into a canopied outdoor arts venue for the evening, featuring art installations, gallery exhibitions, and live window models. Local cafes, galleries, pubs and restaurants will remain open throughout the evening,” adds Mackin.
The Wearable Art Show starts at 8 p.m., April 22, rain or shine. Advance tickets are $15 ($20 at the door), and may be purchased at Venus Envy and the NSCAD University Art Supply Store. A live video feed of the show will also be broadcast at Peddler’s Pub, WAS’s official indoor hub.
