Spark: NSCAD Student Painting Exhibition

Spark: NSCAD Student Painting Exhibition is a two-week exhibition of contemporary paintings by NSCAD emerging artists. The exhibition takes place in spring 2018 at Teichert Gallery at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

Spark: NSCAD Student Painting Exhibition provides a snapshot of student work produced in NSCAD’s famed Painting Department during NSCAD’s 130th academic year. It will open with a reception on Thursday, March 8, 6 to 8 pm. The exhibition will continue for two weeks.

Eligibility

NSCAD University students who are currently enrolled in, or have completed Studio 1, Advanced or Intermediate Painting, are eligible to submit a maximum of three paintings. Works will be considered for inclusion by a jury comprised of representatives from NSCAD Painting and the Teichert Gallery.

How to Enter

Please take photos of the work(s) and submit as high quality (300 dpi) jpegs on a USB stick. Please have the works artist’s name, title, dimensions, media and date.

Please also include a one-paragraph artist statement of 100 to 150 words, cell phone contact, NSCAD email address and preferred email address. Jpegs and written material should be emailed to: asar@novascotia.ca. Submissions can also be received on a USB hand delivered to Teichert Gallery at 1723 Hollis Street, Halifax.

Works for Sale

Paintings accepted for Spark will be offered for sale. Artists will receive 60 per cent of the sale price, with 20 per cent going to Teichert Gallery and 20 per cent going to the Painting Department at NSCAD University.

Pricing will be determined in consultation with Teichert Gallery.

Significant Dates

The deadline for submissions is Friday, Feb. 16 at 5 pm.

Adjudication to take place Monday, Feb. 26, with notification to artists on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

The drop off dates for accepted paintings are Sunday, March 4 and Monday, March 5 at the Tiechert Gallery AGNS. Hanging of the show will take place Tuesday, March 6. Please note that paintings accepted should be “exhibition ready.” See the Guidelines for Submitting Works on the Teichert Gallery website.

The opening reception is Thursday, March 8, 6 to 9 pm.

The exhibition will run for two weeks, to Friday, March 23, 2018. Unsold work must be picked up Saturday March 24th 10-5 or Sunday March 25th between 10 and 5.
