NSCAD Announces the Student Art Award 2021 Finalists

NSCAD University is thrilled to announce the ten finalists for the 2021 NSCAD Student Art Award! This award recognizes and promotes exceptional work completed by NSCAD students. The winning artist will be awarded the $5,000 purchase prize for their artwork, which then becomes part of NSCAD University’s permanent collection. The remaining nine finalists will each receive $1,000.
“I’d like to congratulate all of the student finalists for this momentous achievement,” said Dr. Sarah McKinnon, Interim President, NSCAD University. “The caliber of work produced by our students is always impressive, and in a year as challenging as this one has been, we are especially proud of our students who have risen to the challenge and put forth remarkable creations.”

Each of the ten nominated works represent a different visual art discipline. The 2021 finalists, their artworks and the categories in which they are nominated are:

  • Painting: Luke Fair
  • Sculpture: Marie-Soleil Provençal
  • Photography: Hossein Khodabakhsh
  • Ceramics: Sarah Graeme
  • Textiles/Fashion: Dakota Burpee
  • Drawing: Natasha Martel
  • Film: Mathieu Gauvreau
  • Printmaking: Kris Reppas
  • Expanded Media: Adi Fleisher
  • Jewellery and Metalsmithing: Meng Qiu

We will be showcasing the artists on our social media channels over the next two weeks. NSCAD will announce this year’s grand prize winner, selected by an external jury, in the fall of 2021.  Please join us in congratulating the finalists!
